PARENT TIPS

PARENT TIPS

  • Teach your child their first and last name, address, and your phone number
  • Always have an updated photo of your child.  On the back, put important information such as:  name, date of birth, height, weight, hair and eye color, and any other identifiable marks such as scars or moles, etc.
  • Never allow your child to walk home from school alone. Also make sure that your child always takes the same path or route home. Tell them they can not change their route or plans without calling to notify you first.
  • You may want to use a secret code word that only you and your child use.  Teach your child never to go with anyone unless that person knows the secret code.
  • If your child is home alone, direct him/her about whether or not he/she should answer the phone while you are gone.
  • Teach your child:

HOW and WHEN to call 9-1-1.
